I am not ashamed of
the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes,
to the Jew first and also to the Greek. –
Romans 1:16
We seemingly awake every morning to a new story of
tragedy. Unfortunately, in our nation,
it is seems to somehow be related to the deep divide that has emerged racially
and politically. Never in my life do I
remember our nation being so divided and such hostilities being put on
display. We hear arguments and see riots
related to whose life matters more. Just
recently, we have seen an officer gunned down for no apparent reason except he
was wearing a uniform.
There are a lot of questions that I cannot answer, but this
one thing I know; the cross matters. If
we are going to have any hope at unity, any hope at peace, any hope at seeing
our society become what we want it to be, then the cross is going to have to be
front and center. Unity can only come
through the gospel. As believers, we
cannot be ashamed of the gospel. We must
be bold. We must recognize that it is a
gospel for all people, “to the Jew first (chronologically speaking) and to the
Greek (everyone who’s not a Jew).
The gospel is our only hope.
Let us rest in it. Let us share
it. Let us be bold. Remember the words of Paul in Ephesians 6:14-15,
“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the
breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the
readiness that is given by the gospel of
peace.”
