Luke 4 records the temptation of Jesus by the devil. It is interesting to note the tactic that Satan uses. Twice he challenges the personhood of Jesus. Satan says to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God" (vs. 3, 9). We can almost here the dare, "if you are who you say you are then just do this." Obviously, Jesus does not fall for this tactic and stands firm.
However, we must stop and think about the time Satan uses the "If Strategy" on us.
If you were truly called, then...
If God really wanted to use you, then...
If you were just a little more of this or that, then...
If you had only done this, then...
If only you had not done that, then...
Jesus did not fall for this empty challenge and neither should we. Place your trust, your future, and your destiny firmly in the hands of the Lord and walk in faith. The plans that God has for you will surely come to be, no "ifs" about it.
