Commit to Growth

Growing complacent or stagnant ought to be one of our greatest fears.  We read in Luke 2:52, “Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” In this simple verse we see that Jesus grew in three areas.  He grew intellectually, “in wisdom.” He grew physically, “in stature.” And He grew in influence, “in favor with God and man.”

Clearly we have no control over our physical growth.  However, we do have control over our growth in wisdom, our intellectual growth.  Growth in this area comes as we spend time with God.  Growth in this area comes as we read the word of God.  Growth in this area also will come as we study and implement additional resources that support our growth in the Scriptures.

Our growth in influence will be directly related to our growth in wisdom.  As we are committed to the study and implementation of God’s word our influence will grow.  Unfortunately, too many people focus on having influence and too few focus on growing in the Lord.  Focus on growing in God and influence will come naturally.
